Multimodal Artefact-Assignment 1

ECL210- Language and Literacy: the Early Years

balanced_literacy_graphic.jpg
this picture shows some very important features in learning to be literate

This space will be designed to inform and stretch the knowledge of those who wish to learn about how to teach young children, generally from Grades Prep-2, how to read, write, and start becoming basically literate. This is begun very early in schooling, in some cases even before schooling, in order to enable students to broaden their knowledge through reading, writing, and essentially comprehending what they are reading and writing. This early learning of literary concepts prepares and aids children to move up through the Grades of both primary, secondary and tertiary education, with continual practice and learning along the way. In this wiki i aim to provide a clear and well-set out definition and strategic application of how to teach children to learn to read and write. Also included will be some of the theory behind the strategies used.
The text used for much of this assignment will be Developing Early Literacy, written by Susan Hill (2006).
Enjoy!
